Well it was Melbourne Street youth night and there was a buzz because we had a band visiting us, everything seemed fairly normal… games and food, until the event began, there we were sitting watching comedy YouTube videos featuring Rufus Garside, when all of a sudden they came into the room, dressed as monks, carrying candles and chanting!!!! This is the first time anything like this happened! We had some visitors that night from youth club, not the regular church kids; don’t know what they made of it all?!
So, it kicked off… music, but not at all like the chanting they started with. They lulled us into a false sense of security, then bang… LOUD guitar music!! .. And the drums…. oh the drums!!!!!!!
We were stunned, we didn’t know the songs – they must be new ones! We weren’t sure how to react this time but next time we’ll be able to join in more…. it just took a while to weigh it all up and to get used to it. It’s a bit like that when you go to Soul Survivor or Greenbelt for the first time; it takes a while to feel comfortable. But when we talked at the end of the night, most people said it was really good and that they’d enjoyed it. We’ll be ready for them next time!!!!
Luke talked to us about God and stuff, how we can get to know Him, how it’s good to remember about Him. He told us some of his own personal story too… since he’s been a Christian; his life has been an adventure. He seemed really excited about life!
We want more youth groups to come, so that we can make a real crowd, it’s easier to join in when you re part of a huge crowd!!! We don’t get to travel to events all the time, and this means we can have our own event regularly…. Bring on the trumpets!!!
